#Edinburgh improved in the overall Digital City Index by moving up an impressive five positions.
The city has experienced an overall increase in searches (32%). Notably, it stands out in investment, this is evident in its rise in searches (59%). The main drivers were business hubs and startups with growth rates of 62% and 53%, respectively.
Edinburgh’s drastic growth in the Tourism dimension shows global citizens are particularly interested in camping, reflected in a massive increase in searches (141%). There is also an increasing demand for gastronomy, as searches related to relevant terms doubled in 2016. Out of all the searches gathered on #Edinburgh, 24% are within the Talent dimension and compared to rival cities, a distinctively large share. Unsurprisingly, the most searched topic by far in this dimension is universities. Edinburgh is home to the University of Edinburgh, which is not only one of the oldest, but also one of the best ranked in Europe. Overall, Edinburgh is a strong contender among all three Dimensions. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the city move up in future rankings. These are all great indicators that Edinburgh is a very good #CityBrand

The Digital City Index compiles the measurement of the total amount of searches performed by all worldwide citizens towards any given city. Every search is collected and categorized into three different dimensions: #Tourism”, #Investment (FDI) and #Talent (#Study, #Live and #Work). This is the first year of the City Index, covering only the major European Cities.
