The perception of political instability and the several violent events in Turkey have damaged Istanbul’s appeal and reputation across the three dimensions of the Digital City Index.

Incidences like the Ankara bombings failed coup attempt, and the attack at the Atatürk airport caused severe suffering for the Istanbul City Brand.

Istanbul dropped by a worrying 12 positions, taking the 23rd place. To add insult to injury, searches performed on Istanbul’s Tourism Dimension have decreased by 32% in the last year!

More information about the Digital City Index

The Digital City Index’s measurement uses the compilation of the total amount of searches performed by all worldwide citizens of any given city. Every search is collected and categorized into three different dimensions: Tourism, Investment (FDI), and Talent (Study, Live, and Work). This is the first year of the City Index. It only covers the major European cities. Bloom Consulting and Digital Demand — D2© will expand their research to include Asia and announce the results in Singapore at City Nation Place — the Asia Pacific in May 2018.
