Madrid — the most appealing European City for Investors.

Although Barcelona outperforms the Spanish Capital in this year’s Digital City Index, Madrid stands out for its incredible growth in Investment. Out of all the Top 5 Cities in the Digital City Index, Madrid experienced the highest growth in searches with an impressive 41%. Subsequently, in terms of growth, Madrid is way ahead of Barcelona with an increase in searches of only 11%.

The large increase in searches (21%) of studying in Madrid is a reflection of how well it's perceived as a city for international students. With the growth in searches by 25%, it is considered a progressively more appealing city to live in.

In the last year, Madrid’s real estate industry experienced growth in searches (48%). It shows the market is continuing to recover. Additionally, it seems like the labour market reform has paid off with an intensification of searches towards the labour pool levelling out to 68%.

Overall, Madrid is still falling behind in the number of total searches with lots of catching up to do. However, the City is on its way to regaining its economic strength.

All in all, Madrid is clearly more than just tapas and fantastic art museums. It is establishing itself as a strong competitor and proving that it can find its way out of a crisis. ¡MADRID ME MATA!

The Digital City Index’s measurement uses the compilation of the total amount of searches performed by all worldwide citizens of any given city. Every search is collected and categorized into three different dimensions: Tourism, Investment (FDI), and Talent (Study, Live, and Work). This is the first year of the City Index.
