Reykjavik is the European city with the highest growth appeal!
Despite placing 46th in the Bloom Consulting Digital City Index, #Reykjavik is the city that has been experiencing the highest growth of all cities represented. There has been an incredible increase of 84% in searches. This boost can be primarily observed in the Tourism dimension, where searches have almost doubled.
The astonishing performance of Iceland’s soccer team in the UEFA Euro Cup 2016 clearly helped to expand the appeal of the City in the Tourism Dimension. During the tournament, searches were more than twice as high in Tourism as the year before. It’s interesting to note that Paris, one of the event’s host cities, did not experience a high progression in searches. Yet, it seems like a national soccer team can truly surge the appeal of a city, as we have seen with Reykjavik.
Overall, Reykjavik City brand is clearly on the rise. However, Reykjavik’s Investment FDI and Talent dimension need enriching too.

The Digital City Index’s measurement uses the compilation of the total amount of searches performed by all worldwide citizens of any given city. Every search is collected and categorized into three different dimensions: Tourism, Investment (FDI), and Talent (Study, Live, and Work). This is the first year of the City Index. It only covers the major European cities.
